Patterns of Bacterioplankton Diversity in Recreational Marinas in the Island of Mallorca (balearic Islands) and Its Relation to Hydrocarbon Pollution

چکیده
The analysis of bacterioplankton in surface seawater from different recreational marinas evidenced common patterns in the diversity of some bacterial groups, i.e. Alphaproteobacteria. In particular, certain phylotypes of the Roseobacter clade predominated in these environments. Although this clade seemed to be stimulated by experimental diesel-oil pollution, their apparent success in polluted environments, such as marinas, is most likely due to a combination of factors and not only to hydrocarbon pollution.

New records of Trichoceridae (Diptera) from the island of Mallorca
BACKGROUND The Trichoceridae are a small family distributed mainly in the Holarctic Region, most of which are associated with cold seasons and even snow. From the Iberian peninsula, 5 species have been recorded; however only a single previous occurence record exists from the Balearic islands. NEW INFORMATION In this paper we present new records of two species from Mallorca, of which Trichocer...

متن کاملEthnobotany of Mallorca (Balearic islands): a multidisciplinary approach.
In this communication, we provide some basic methodological and practical ideas for plant knowledge comparisons among different predefined natural regions of the Mediterranean island of Mallorca, in the frame of an ongoing project in this area. The final goal of this work is to present a tool to find out to what extent plant knowledge is similar in the different regions. We use an uncommon appr...
متن کاملA new species of Myotragus Bate, 1909 (Artiodactyla, Caprinae) from the Early Pliocene of Mallorca (Balearic Islands, western Mediterranean)
Myotragus palomboi n.sp. (Artiodactyla, Caprinae) is described from the Early Pliocene of Mallorca (Balearic Islands, western Mediterranean). This species is the earliest representative of the Myotragus lineage known to date in the Balearic Islands. A metatarsal, and several teeth and postcranial remains were found in a karstic deposit located on the east coast of the island, near Caló den Rafe...
متن کاملDistribution and Abundance of the Corals around Hengam and Farurgan Islands, the Persian Gulf
The percentage cover and distribution of scleractinian corals were studied at two Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf. Survey techniques involved the use of 20-m line transects placed at 4-9 m depth interval, parallel to the shore. GIS based maps were employed to show the distribution of hard corals. In Farurgan Island, hard coral cover was concentrated in the west and north-west of the island,...
